Exchanging Foreign Currency in Macau
Please read the important information below, regarding the use of foreign currency in Macau.
Very strict rules are in force within the Grand Waldo Casino and throughout the Special Administrative Region (SAR) of Macau about foreign currency (FOREX). The rules are relevant in particular to US dollars (USD). The rules are designed to minimize the flow of illegal and counterfeit currency and they are enforced automatically.
Please keep in mind that Macau is a territory within the People’s Republic of China (PRC). We strongly advise you against violating any of our host country’s laws or policies.
US DOLLAR ISSUES
If you are bringing USD (US Dollars) into the Grand Waldo Casino, please ensure they comply with the following specifications or they may be refused:
- Only USD ‘speed bills’ are accepted. Speed bills are those USD bank notes with “big heads” in which the head and shoulder portraits take up at least 1/4 of the bill and touch both the top and bottom shaded borders.
NOTES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IF THEY ARE:
- USD bank notes which have the prefix CB before the serial number.
- USD bank notes in the year series 1990 & 1991.
- Old USD bank notes including: mutilated USD bank notes, e.g. notes that are marked with ink or pen, defaced or torn, slightly faded or worn, etc.
- Creased USD bank notes: Bank notes that have a white line in the centre of the bill because they have been folded in half in a wallet.
- 1 dollar, 2 dollar, or 5 dollar bank notes or US coins.
COUNTERFEIT BILLS:
If you are caught with counterfeit bills at any FOREX counter in Macau, regardless of the circumstances in which you received them, you will automatically be sent to the Police station for questioning. This applies even if you had just a single bill. For this reason you must ensure that any USD bills you receive are new, and that you do not fold them or deface them in any way before you bring them into the Grand Waldo Casino. We recommend that you prepare accordingly by obtaining new USD notes from your own bank, from an airport FOREX exchange in your home country, or in Hong Kong or Macau, before arriving at the casino.
ACCEPTABLE CURRENCIES FOR FOREX AT GRAND WALDO CASINO:
Only the following currency is accepted at the Grand Waldo Macau:
- USD (US)
- MOP (MACAU)
- RMB (CHINA)
The currency will be converted into Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) or casino chips.
The Grand Waldo Casino only buys FOREX, it does not sell it. This means you must keep the transaction receipt you received when exchanging your currency. You can redeem only up to this amount and at the rate you originally received when exchanging it.
Winnings in HKD which exceed this original exchange amount can be exchanged at the airport or at your local bank.
Identification such as your Passport or your National Security Number is required for FOREX at the Grand Waldo Hotel. This is stipulated by the Monetary Authority of Macau (AMCM). PLEASE KEEP YOUR PASSPORT WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES IN MACAU.
ATM & CASH ACCESS ON SITE
The ATMs on site at the Grand Waldo Casino will issue only a relatively small amount of cash. Banks and cash vendors on site in the hotel will be able to assist you to withdraw cash from your credit cards, but these are not open 24 hours.
