The Macau Poker Cup
The PokerStars Macau poker room is proud to host the Macau Poker Cup which is the premiere poker tournament series in Asia, established in Macau since May, 2008. The Macau Poker Cup always features a charity event that benefits a local charity, as well as a selection of feature events that have each developed their own strong following. The most well-known feature event is the Main Event called the Red Dragon tournament.

he Macau Poker Cup's Red Dragon event is the only regular high buy-in poker tournament in Asia (with a HKD $10,000 buy-in, except for the December Macau Poker Cup Championship Main Event which will have a HKD $20,000 buy-in) and a deep-value slow structure running over three days, thus attracting top players from across Asia and the world to test their true poker skills against each other. And now that field size regularly exceeds 200 players, the Red Dragon event is also the richest regular poker tournament in Asia with prize pools normally in excess of HKD $ 2,000,000 (approximately USD $ 258,000).

Asia Player of the Year Leaderboard - Scoring Criteria
There are three criteria when calculating points:
- Place finished at the final table
The final ten will receive points. Players receive points only if they are in the money. If a tournament pays only five places, only the top five players get points. Only MPCC numbered events, MPC numbered events, MPC Monthly Special Tournaments, Feb. 20 $4000 KO Bounty, and May 15 $10,000 event qualify for APOY Leaderboard points.
- Amount of the buy-in
- Number of entrants
Total points are calculated by multiplying the point factors of the three criteria:
Place finished:
| Place | Points Awarded |
|---|---|
| 1st | 120 |
| 2nd | 100 |
| 3rd | 80 |
| 4th | 60 |
| 5th | 50 |
| 6th | 40 |
| 7th | 35 |
| 8th | 30 |
| 9th | 25 |
| 10th | 20 |
Buy-ins
| Buy-in (HKD) | Points Awarded |
|---|---|
| $20,000 or more | 3.5 points |
| $10,000-$19,999 | 3 points. |
| $5000-$9999 | 2.5 points |
| $2,000-$4999 | 2 points |
| $1,000-$1,999 | 1.5 points |
| $1,000 or less | 1 point |
The buy-in in rebuy tournaments is calculated by dividing the total gross prize pool by the number of entrants.
Number of entrants:
| Number of entrants | Points Awarded |
|---|---|
| 60-69 | 1.6 points |
| 50-59 | 1.4 points |
| 40-49 | 1.2 points |
| Under 40 | 1 point |
Every 10 additional number of entrants increases the number of points by 0.2, with the number of entrants rounded to the nearest 10.
Here is a hypothetical total point calculation example:
You finished in 3rd place in a $1000 buy-in event that had 51 entrants.
You receive 80 points for 3rd; the buy-in is $1000, which is a 1.5-point event; and there are 51 entrants, which is good for 1.4 points.
Thus, you receive 160 total points (80 x 1.5 x 1.4= 168).
